It’s Showtime!

Being on the ground at Tōmoana Showgrounds in Hastings for Horse of the Year was a game-changer for the Trust; it's the largest equestrian event attended since the first horse ambulance was deployed in November 2018.

Justine Sclater, Head of Welfare and Sustainability at NZ Thoroughbred Racing, was determined to ensure that an equine ambulance was available for the well-being of the competing horses and ponies.

In the same week, there was a horse ambulance on site for the Wānaka A&P Show, an Open Farm at Byerley Park, and on course for Thoroughbred race meetings across the motu at Ōtaki-Māori Racing ClubRiccarton Park RacecourseTaupō Racing ClubEllerslieWellington Racing Club and Gore.

Harness race meetings were held at Oamaru Harness Racing ClubCambridge RacewayAlexandra ParkWestport Trotting ClubReefton Trotting Club, and Thoroughbred trials were held at Riccarton and Foxton.

The horse ambulance has become an essential component of race day and equestrian events, with event organisers and participants acknowledging that the welfare of the horse is paramount.

Your support directly enables the Trust to achieve that outcome.
