OUR SERVICES

NZ Horse Ambulance Trust works closely with equine veterinarians at equestrian events.

We work with the experts on site, to provide the ambulance facility to stabilise and transport horses when required.

We have ten specialist ambulance units in operation throughout
New Zealand based in the following areas:

  • Auckland

  • Cambridge

  • Matamata

  • Taupo

  • Manawatu

  • Canterbury

  • Otago

  • Southland

OUR SERVICES

It is important to note that our Horse Ambulance Trust works closely with equine veterinarians at all events. We work closely with the specialist equine vets on site and provide a purpose-built horse ambulance to safely transport horses when required.

We do not provide a veterinary service, however our driver/operators are experienced horse people.

Our services include:

Attendance at all thoroughbred race meetings and trials in line with the TAB schedule.

Attendance at all harness race meetings in line with the TAB schedule.

ATTENDANCE

On-site support for all equestrian events held at the National Equestrian Centre in Taupo.

Attendance at equestrian events on request in line with the Occasional Hire Agreement, for example eventing, polo.

SUPPORT

Transferring of horses post-surgery or treatment from equine veterinary centres to home or agistment.

Transport of injured or ill horses that cannot travel in a horse truck or float for the SPCA or MPI.

TRANSPORT

There are some important criteria that must be considered and adhered to when booking an ambulance for a meeting or event.

AFFILIATION

The event organiser, or equestrian sports or activities competed at the event must be affiliated to a national body which has an existing relationship or Memorandum of Understanding with the NZHAT.

In this, it is noted that Equestrian Sport NZ (ESNZ) is a signatory to the Trust Deed, so any event conducted by any of the five ESNZ disciplines meets this condition.

EQUINE VETERINARIAN

An equine veterinarian must be on-site during all competitive events, and it is preferable that the event veterinarian be a member of the NZ Equine Veterinary Association (NZEVA).

If multiple veterinarians are at the event, an NZEVA member vet must be at the scene of a horse incident where the ambulance is deployed.
